Find the best camera angle

Many people have their camera either in their hand or sitting on a table or desk, placing the camera below chin level.

This means you end up looking down on it, which is not good. Your client will be staring at your chin (possibly plural) or looking up your nose.

Trust me, nobody wants to see up your nose.

Set your camera at forehead level so you are slightly (but only slightly) looking up at it.

This will make you look more attentive and engaged with your client. It will also stretch you face lightly, which is also a little flattering.

If you are not confortable with your keyboard and mouse at that level use peripheral ones

Log into your meeting software well before the meeting starts so that you can check your appearance and make any adjustments you need.

You should appear with your mouth approximately level with the horizontal centre of the screen and a little bit of space (maybe 10% of the total screen height) just above your head.

If you are using a mobile don’t hold it. Invest in a tripod and mobile clip. This will help you avoid camera shake, fall-over and weird camera angles, all of which will put a customer off.

A selection of large books and sturdy boxes can be handy so you can adjust the height of your camera.

Also handy is a ‘Pop Socket’ which lets you hang your phone on a mug or similar. You can then raise the mug to the required height.
